Various Types of Registration under the ISI Certification Process

The ISI Certification process is divided into two different processes. The processes are simplified procedures and normal procedures. These two processes have seven steps in them. These processes have the same steps that are IS Applicability, documentation, application submission, inspection, and grant of license. The only difference between a simplified procedure and a normal procedure is that the simplified procedure has an extra step which is testing. And the timing for testing depends on the product for which you have applied.

  • KYC Documents of the applicant that are Identity proof, i.e. Aadhar Card and residential certificate
  • Complete details of the factory/ manufacturing unit given in Form- v, which includes the full name of the factory, address proof (certificate from the Registrar of the firm or, Certificate from Directorate of Industries or Certificate from Industries center or Memorandum of Articles, etc.)
  • PAN Number of the firm, details of the management, DIN number of the director, etc.
  • Name and Address proof of office (certificate from the Registrar of the firm or, Certificate from Directorate of Industries or Certificate from Industries center or for showing legal occupancy of the premises by the firm Memorandum of Articles or Valid Lease Deed.)
  • Copy of valid MSME Certificate if the applicant is an MSME company
  • Flow chart of the manufacturing process
  • List of the manufacturing machines
  • List of the testing pieces of equipment
  • Details of the packaging that will include product size, quantity, storage facility, and other basic details related to packaging
  • Copy of the Trademark Registration if the firm has a trademark
  • Authority letter from the person if a person other than the CEO of the firm is signing the application form

Fee for ISI Registration

ISI application fee for different types of applicants is given is below. If the applicant is an Indian manufacturer, then the fee for an ISI application will be 1000 rupees but if the applicant is a manufacturer from a foreign then the fee will be 50 US dollars. Apart from the application fee, 1000 rupees will be paid as an annual licensing fee and 7000 rupees will be paid as the testing fee and the marking fee will also be paid. The fee will be paid in the name of the Bureau of Indian Standards by the applicant that is the factory.

Validity of the ISI Registration

The ISI (Indian Standard Institute) Mark Registration remains valid for only a year. The ISI (Indian Standard Institute) Mark Registration can be given for up to two years. This registration can be renewed for up to five years by paying the renewal fee, marking fee and some other required documents.

Renewal of the ISI Registration

The renewal may be done for not less than a year, but it may be extended to five years, this is totally dependent on the payment of the annual license fee and advance minimum marking fee. The application for the renewal shall be made before the expiry of the ISI Certificate, if the holder could not apply within that period, then he should apply with the respective late fee.

The application for the renewal certificate shall be made in Form XII. The renewal certificate shall consist of the month-wise production details of the products, and it shall also include the consignee’s address. It will consist of the remittance of the applicable fee.

Grounds for which the Application for ISI Certificate can get rejected

The Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS) has the full authority to reject the application of ISI Certificate. The grounds for rejecting the application for the ISI Certificate can be rejected for the following grounds.

  • It is compulsory to submit the sample of the products for testing after submitting the ISI Application, if the applicant does not do that, then the application can be rejected.
  • If the applicant or the firm is doing something unethical.
  • If the applicant has not submitted all the required documents or has submitted wrong or incomplete documents.
  • If the manufacturing unit does not have enough technical personnel as per the requirement.
  • If the sample could not meet the requirement as per the standard given by the BIS
  • If there is not enough facility for testing
  • If the applicant firm could not manage to clear the financial dues of the Bureau of Indian Standard BIS
  • If the manufacturing facility totally deviates from the declared facility.
  • If the applicant firm could not manage to assist the visiting official during the factory visit.
  • If the applicant firm could not manage to assist and give a sample in the second visit by the official.

But before rejecting the ISI application made by the applicant, the Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS) gives a 21 day long notice to prove its reasons for it or defend it. The applicant can be heard personally or through his representative. But after hearing the applicant, if the BIS does not get satisfied then it will reject the application.
